Upcoming Publishing Models
Publishing is often criticised for outdated business models and slow adaptation to new trends including the digital revolution. Now, publishing models come in all shapes and sizes. We’ve gathered a panel of fantastic professionals across books, magazines, comics, and academic textbooks who are breaking the mould and tackling publishing in their own unique ways.
Alex is the founder of The Grapevine, a publication which currently circulates in the north of Scotland ‘telling stories of innovation, culture, and enterprise.’
Sha Nazir is a founder of Black Hearted Press Comics. BHP Comics is an indie comic book publisher, with a range of creator owned titles and graphic novels from both established creators and cutting edge new talent. They also run various Comic Cons and events across the country, including the critically acclaimed Glasgow Comic Con.
John is a co-founder and director of Bright Red Publishing. Bright Red is an Edinburgh-based publisher of study guides for the Scottish academic curriculum and have won many awards since their arrival in 2008.

Laura has numerous years experience at DC Thomson and currently acts as Editor-in-Chief for Comics. Around since 1886, DC Thomson publish magazines and newspapers including Scots Magazine, Shout, Beano, Oor Wullie, Evening Express and many more.
