2020: A Publishing Odyssey

Thread: A Tale for the Time Being:
Intellectual Property

Intellectual property can be a minefield for publishers and authors, evident in high profile cases such as the Harry Potter series. Copyright, trademarks, defamation: these are all vital considerations in the publishing process. In this session we’ll hear legal and publisher perspectives on where it can go wrong and, essentially, how to protect IP.

Hugh Andrew

Hugh Andrew began his career in bookselling before becoming a freelance rep in 1990. He set up Birlinn Ltd in 1992, helped save Canongate from receivership in 1994 and was joint MD of the company between 1994 and 1998. Since then he has focussed on Birlinn Ltd which is now the largest company left wholly owned and managed from within Scotland.
