Thread: A Tale for the Time Being:
Design in Discussion
Design is vital in the publishing industry. It’s what draws your eye to that one book of thousands on shelves, what leads your eye around a well-crafted magazine – it can make or break the work. Jim Hutcheson and Eric Campbell join us for a conversation about the art of design, how they approach it and, most importantly, why design matters.
Jim the creative director at Birlinn/Polygon as an illustrator, typographer, cartoonist and graphic designer. He’s done work for authors such as Charles Bukowski, Alasdair Gray, Michel Faber, Yann Martel, Slavoj Zizek, George Monbiot, Alexander McCall Smith and many more.
Eric is the Managing Director of White Light Media and Creative Director of Hot Rum Cow. His design work has picked up the the Scottish Magazine Awards’ Consumer Magazine Design award and the Independent Publisher’s Network Designer of the Year Award.
