What we’re looking forward to in 2016…

We’ve spent the last few weeks reflecting on 2015 on Twitter and the blog, but now it’s time to look ahead. What does 2016 hold? Well, here are just a few things we’re looking forward to…

saltireThe Saltire Society’s 80th birthday.
The Saltire Society is an institute in the Scottish literary landscape, a real celebration of literature, and 2016 marks their 80th birthday. There will be some special things up their sleeve in order to celebrate, and we hope you’ll join us in helping wish them a happy birthday for this big one!

ebfBooked! rolling out across the year.
Every August, book lovers descend on Charlotte Square in Edinburgh, but 2016 will see a push for the Edinburgh International Book Festival to branch out with events that “provide unique access to authors and live literature events in intimate surroundings, instilling a love of books and an enjoyment of reading for all levels of ability, all ages and all communities.” There’s never too many booky events, so we can’t wait to see what they do!

yayyaYay!YA getting bigger and better.
Anything that celebrates Scotland’s literaty scene is something we’re interested in, and 2015 saw the inaugural Yay!YA make a splash. In #SYPchat earlier this year, Kirkland said that 2016 would see the festival be bigger and better, and we’re on the edge of our seats waiting to see where this celebration of Scottish YA goes next!

And finally! 2020: A Publishing Odyssey.
We at SYP Scotland are passionate advocates of the publishing industry up here, and we will be hosting our first ever conference on March 18th! We’ve announced one session so far, but we have many, many more up our sleeves for a thrilling day of insight tailored to those looking to get into the industry, and those in their first few years. It will give broader insight, but also something a little more accessible to newcomers. Early bird is still available, but only for about two more weeks! Full event and ticket information can be found over here.Print
